It’s St. Patrick’s Day! If you’re going out tonight, we strongly encourage you not to drink the green beer. Just like you shouldn’t eat yellow snow, green beer is just not normal. Instead, show a little respect to the Irish traditions and drink good! Our drink today – The Irish Buck – is a super easy twist on the glass Gin Buck, just dressed up for St. Pats! Too bad it isn’t green, that would have been perfect. Thank you www.bar.com for the recipe idea.

Whiskey Drink for St. Patrick's Day

Irish Buck

The Irish Buck

  • 1.5oz Irish Whiskey
  • 1 squeeze lime juice
  • 2 oz ginger ale
  • 1 lime wheel

Get a glass.  Pour the whiskey, squeeze some lime, top it off with the ginger ale, et voila! You have a refreshingly, tasty drink that can easily be consumed over and over again all night long.

Out of all the drinks we made this week, the Irish Buck was my favorite. Generally I get “whiskey face” when I drink my whiskey straight up – I’m working on it, someday I won’t make that horrendous face after I enjoy this new-found love of a liquor. But this drink mellows out the whiskey and actually brings out more flavors that I’ve never tasted before. Also, and quite a key concept, the ginger ale makes the drink much more palatable. This drink is manly enough in looks (you can get it in a rocks or highball glass) and it’s tasty enough to appeal to ladies. I really see this as the new Universal St. Patrick’s Day drink.

Oh wait, Guinness…that’s the Universal St. Patrick’s Day drink.
